Much of Inman Valley history is recorded through oral histories, the community is in the process of uploading copies of these to soundcloud.com. Oral history records information about families, individuals and everyday life in a first hand way. Recorded using video and audio technology to preserve memories and opinions.

Oral histories are a way of obtaining and preserving information that can rarely be imparted through written sources. The first of these available to listen to is from a collection produced by Garnet Parsons. This interview is between Elijah Hutchinson, and Garnet in 1965. Close to 3 hours of recording are now available at https://soundcloud.com/user-908327842/sets/elijah-hutchinson-interviewed.
Garnet carried out interviews with several of the pioneer families, many of these are available for viewing through the State Library of South Australia. For example another interview that Garnet recorded was that of Mrs. M. McDougall, which is accessible in physical form through the library, more information at https://www.catalog.slsa.sa.gov.au/record=b2178438~S1. These cassette tapes are lasting storytelling from the settlement and formation of community within the area.
There are more individual stories to come that were recorded by Barry Furler as part of the community history festival over the last few years. Please join us as we continue to work on documenting and sharing Inman Valley stories, and making our history available to viewers all over the world.
